STEM Report Calls for Refocus in Education

A new report issued this week by the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) is calling for sweeping changes to bolster STEM education in the United States. Citing an impending shortfall in scientists, engineers, and mathematicians in this country, the report highlights the need to expose children to STEM early and to integrate these subjects throughout the curriculum, beginning as early as kindergarten.

Colorado School Installs 100 Kilowatt Solar System

Kent Denver School, a private, non-profit college prep school in Colorado, has ramped up its renewable energy program by installing a 100 kilowatt solar system. The system, deployed by Bella Energy, will provide the school with more than 135,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year at a fixed cost for the next 20 years.

DTE Energy Kicks Off Science Mini Grants for K-12 Educators

DTE Energy recently kicked off its 2009 Energy & Our World Mini Grants for Educators program. The program offers small grants, typically up to $250, to help individual K-12 educators fund science programs that they otherwise couldn't afford.

Sam Learning Adds Science, Audio Content to Online Test Prep Platform

Sam Learning has added science content to its Web-based, High School Exit Exam prep curriculum. The company has also added "improvement lessons" to some objectives, with an audio component intended to give students an alternative way to learn core concepts.

LearningStation Integrates Web-Based Tools with EduTone Platform

LearningStation has announced a partnership with VIP Tone that will integrate several of the company's solutions with the VIP Tone EduTone platform. The partnership will also allow LearningStation users to access EduTone Passport content through the LearningStation portal.

Pitney Bowes Unveils K-12 Exam Tracking System

Pitney Bowes has announced a new exam tracking system, designed specifically for K-12 schools and districts. The Arrival Exam Tracking System is designed to help institutions track and manage state-mandated test booklets through the automation of several tasks.

PBS TeacherLine has upgraded its PBS TeacherLine Peer Connection in an effort to expand professional development resources for instructional coaches and teachers. The new version includes additional professional development modules and enhancements to the UI.

Qwest Opens Grants for Wyoming Teachers

The Qwest Foundation this week launched its 2009 Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program. It will provide grants up to $12,000 for three individual K-12 teachers who use technology in their classrooms.
