Amgen Kicks Off 18th-Annual Science Grants for K-12 Teachers

Biotechnology developer Amgen has launched its 18th-annual Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. This year's program will award 34 individual teachers with $5,000 each in unrestricted cash grants, plus $5,000 in restricted grants for those teachers' schools to expand or enhance science resources on campus.

Wimba Collaboration Suite Enhances Moodle Integration

Wimba recently announced that it's expanded its support for Moodle, the popular open source learning management system. The enhanced support is designed to make it easier to integrate the Wimba Collaboration Suite in Moodle environments and broaden the features available, including a new new voice-mail feature that instructors and students can use to talk (literally) about homework or other issues.

Deadline Extended for K-12 Science Mini Grant Program

The application period for DTE Energy's 2009 Energy & Our World Mini Grants for Educators program has been extended to Nov. 28. The program offers small grants, typically up to $250, to help individual K-12 educators fund science programs that they otherwise couldn't afford for their classes.

2008 Speak Up Survey Focuses on 21st Century Learning

Project Tomorrow recently kicked off Speak Up 2008, the latest annual survey focused on the national discussion about 21st century education. Since opening last week, the survey has received more than 12,000 responses, an increase of about 37 percent over the same time period in last year's survey.
