TH(i)NQ Ed Takes journ(i)e Network Mobile
On the heels of its introduction of a mobile application for Android mobile phones, online education solutions provider TH(i)NQ Ed has introduced an application for the Apple iPod touch and iPhone mobile devices for users of its learning network journ(i)e. The new app offers all of the same features and security available in the online version.
journ(i)e launched in spring 2010 as a variation on the standard collaborative learning system, aiming for improved student engagement by allowing administrators to establish communities for every venue within, and peripheral to, the school environment, including classrooms, grade levels, subjects, topics and focal points within subjects, extracurricular activities, special events, shared interests, etc., as well as communities for teacher and parent interaction.
Within a community, the teacher can assign work, receive submissions, transmit information, make announcements, and keep a calendar, while students can collaborate on assignments and projects, discuss concepts, create wikis for general information, provide links to relevant Web sites, and ask questions of the teacher.
journ(i)e Mobile allows users access to the communities to which they belong and to the Web 2.0 functions that allow for full interaction with other community members. These functions include:
- Posting to blogs, wikis, and discussion groups;
- Reading and sharing published content, including blogs and audiovisual files;
- Sending messages to fellow group members and teachers; and
- Updating user profiles and status.
The journ(i)e Mobile app is available at the Apple App Store, accessible on the iPhone, as well as at the journ(i)e Web site.
