PBS To Launch Free Media Service

PBS and WGBH will launch PBS LearningMedia, a free digital media platform for prekindergarten through college classrooms, this summer.

PBS LearningMedia will collect media aligned to curriculum standards from 1,500 producers and more than 350 PBS stations. LearningMedia will also feature professional development courses and a flexible infrastructure that combines models from the PBS Digital Learning Library with local services from WGBH’s Teachers’ Domain and will allow for customization and integration with other PBS services.

LearningMedia will be available for free or as a premium service. Additional features available with the premium service will include:

  • Bulk registrations;
  • Detailed analytics;
  • Assessments integration; and
  • Credit-bearing professional development courses.
According to Senior Director of Media Relations and Program Promotion Stephanie Aaronson, a demo of LearningMedia will be available late next month. The full service will be available by the start of the 2011-2012 school year.
