Pearson Launches Webinar Series on Common Core Standards

A new series of free webinars, from Pearson, will explore how educators can transition to the Common Core State Standards. Experts in literacy, mathematics, professional development, and assessment will lead each webinar.

The series will outline the principles of the CCSS, what they mean for educators and students, and how to employ them in the classroom. Webinar leaders will also delve into the new problem solving and comprehension skills students will need when the standards are implemented.

Selected speakers and topics include:

  • Tips and Strategies for Implementing ELA Common Core Standards in Classroom Reading Instruction with Sharon Vaughn, professor at the University of Texas and member of the board of directors of the Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts;
  • Unlocking the K-5 Common Core Content Standards through the Lens of Number Sense with Linda Gojak, president-elect of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics;
  • The Standards for Mathematical Practice in the K-8 Classroom with Jane Schielack, associate dean for Assessment and PreK Education at Texas A&M University; and
  • Literacy Common Core Standards with Sally Hampton, chair of the English Language Arts College and Career Readiness Common Core State Standards Workgroup, member of the English Language Arts K-12 Common Core State Standards Committee, and senior fellow at Pearson

Webinars will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 pm EST through November 19. Additional information, including how to register, is available online. All webinars are archived for later access.
