Wireless Generation Buys Intel-Assess

Digital tools provider Wireless Generation has acquired Intel-Assess, an assessment materials and services firm, in a move that increases its offerings for both teachers and district officials, particularly in regard to instructional planning.

The acquisition of the six-year-old San Francisco, CA-based firm gives Wireless Generation access to assessment items and tools related to assessment, as well as professional services to go along with Wireless Generation's formative assessment platform.

While resources will be shared, Intel-Assess will function as an independent organization within the broader Wireless Generation family, according to information on the Intel-Assess blog.

The new products will join an existing line of Wireless Generation products that includes the company's mCLASS assessment products and Burst curriculum and instruction products, and services provided by the company such as professional consulting and the building of education data systems for its clients.

"The high caliber assessment content Intel-Assess provides enhances the strength of the tools we've developed to help teachers gain an informative picture of student mastery of standards," said Josh Reibel, Wireless Generation President and COO.  "Intel-Assess is a natural fit for Wireless Generation, and I am confident it will be a key contributor to our ongoing success."

Acquisition of Intel-Assess will also help in the creation of assessments aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

The Intel-Assess portfolio includes finished assessments, such as Quick Checks, as well as software used in blueprinting for assessment creation and professional development guidance.

"This partnership creates a powerful combination to further student achievement," said Jaime Goldfarb, Intel-Assess founder and president. "Joining Wireless Generation enables us to work with even more districts, helping plan, design and build assessment programs that help districts achieve their instructional goals."

Formed by a pair of Rhodes Scholars, Larry Berger and Greg Gunn, Wireless Generation is based in Brooklyn, NY, and its services and products are currently used by more than three million students and 200,000 teachers across the country.
