Palo Alto USD Adopts New Data Management Tool

The Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) has deployed a new data management solution in an effort to reduce data restoration times.

Previously, the district used a system of about 170 VMware-based virtualized servers and legacy hardware and data restoration took approximately half a day.

PAUSD Application Specialist Terry Young looked at solutions from Dell, CommVault, EMC, and Hewlett-Packard before settling on Actifio's Copy Data Storage platform.

"Actifio's copy data storage platform gave us the most reliable data protection in the world as well as the fastest restoration times we've ever experienced," said Young, in a prepared statement. "With legacy storage products from other vendors, the restoration process was always arduous and time-consuming because they were too dependent on the production environment. Since we switched to Actifio, we also realized tremendous cost savings as well as a faster and more efficient Test and Development environment."

"With Actifio's copy data storage platform, I never have to worry about restoration as there is no reliance on production storage for recovery. I find the solution complements my Flash storage array as I can perform backups faster as well as manage more frequencies during the day for more granular recovery points," Young added.

Palo Alto Unified School District serves more than 12,000 students with 1,500 faculty and staff at 12 elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools.
