North Carolina STEM Ed Center Gets Money for Rubric Creation

The North Carolina Science, Mathematics and Technology Education Center has received a $5,000 donation from Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina to develop a rubric for use by schools that want to implement STEM, assessment tools for teachers and administrators to track progress on STEM programs and a Web portal of STEM education resources.

The Education Center is a joint initiative of the state's department of public instruction, community college system, and university system, among others. It's located in the Research Triangle Park, which is home to numerous technology companies; it sits between three research universities, including Duke, North Carolina State, and the University of North Carolina.

"Through our NC STEM Learning Network project, we build the tools and resources needed to create an educated workforce with relevant 21st century skills," said Sam Houston, president and CEO of the Education Center. "We believe a skilled workforce is the best economic development tool this state has, and we're proud to partner with RTP Foundation to continue making positive impacts in education throughout North Carolina."

Added Bob Geolas, president and CEO at RTP Foundation, "Keeping education relevant requires collaborative efforts [among] educators, businesses, and government."
