School Newspapers Online Adds Storytelling and Design Tools to Platform

School Newspapers Online (SNO) has updated its online publishing platform with new tools designed to give student journalists enhanced storytelling and layout options. The upgrade reflects changes requested by students and journalism advisers.

SNO FLEX 5.4, built on the WordPress platform, now features a template for long-form stories. The template includes options for large photo displays (for introducing stories), integrated slide shows and chapter navigation, according to a company statement. The template could also be used for "pro/con opinion pieces, lists, or groupings of reviews."

The updated platform includes a restructured design interface that enables students to quickly test drive different design configurations. New tools enable users to change color schemes, style sets, font, backgrounds, patterns or widget styles with a few clicks of the mouse. Configurations can be modified based on new stories.

Journalism programs already using the Flex platform can access the update at no charge. Additional information is available at SNO's web site.
