Wisconsin District Gets Personal

A Wisconsin school district with 9,200 students will be going full steam ahead with its implementation of a personalized learning program. To monitor student achievement, West Allis-West Milwaukee School District has adopted Mileposts from Silverback Learning Solutions.

Teachers use the cloud-based service to create personalized learning plans for their students, to manage interventions, monitor progress and gain insights about specific instructional approaches that seem to work for a particular student. The software integrates multimedia learning resources from Gooru, an open Web collection of resources posted by K-12 teachers that can be used as-is or mixed with their own lessons and shared.

The district chose Mileposts after a "thorough evaluation," said Superintendent Kurt Wachholz. This technology, he added, "will provide our community with a modern way to understand individual student achievement and collaborate around tailoring curriculum and learning resources to support, modify and improve their achievement throughout the year."

Silverback said in a statement that its software is in use in 18 other states. Among those customers are Bonneville Joint School District in Idaho and Southbridge Public Schools in Massachusetts.
