New K-6 Math Software Focuses on Home Use

"Big three" publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) has released an online math resource designed for home use, built on its K-6 software program, Go Math.

The online learning tool, called Go Math! Academy, is self paced and provides students with rewards and incentives for practicing math independently. Focusing on higher-order skills, like those required by the Common Core standards, the program also gives students access to all K-6 lessons allowing them to review previously learned concepts or move ahead.

Lessons for grades 7-8 are in development and will become available in the coming months, and the company is working on adding reading and other subjects in a similar format. Subscriptions are available for $9.99 per month, $49.99 for six months, or $79.99 for a year.

"The advancement of online learning provides a wealth of new, highly-effective and engaging opportunities for education outside of the classroom," said Gary Gentel, president of trade and consumer publishing at HMH in a statement.

Recently, HMH has begun offering a number of parent- and extra-curricular-focused applications, like the Curious About series, which uses the familiar Curious George character to build foundational education principles for young learners.
