Arizona District Reduces Energy Use with Projector Upgrade

Phoenix Union High School District has replaced its existing classroom projectors with 1,480 bulb-less units in an effort to improve efficiency.

The district, with more than 27,000 students and nearly 3,000 employees at 16 schools, decided to adopt Casio's XJ-M250 projectors. The DLP 3D-ready XJ-M250, like all Casio projectors, is lamp-free. Featuring a laser and LED hybrid light source with an estimated lifespan of 20,000 hours, the projectors can be put into use as often as necessary.

"Only a few manufacturers offered lamp-free LED projectors when we started the Phoenix Union project, but Casio offered the most powerful lamp-free light engine for the price range," said Alexis Cruz-Christensen, vice president of educational partnerships at ImmediaEdu, the company that recommended and installed the projectors for the district. "Additionally, with a large zoom range, Casio's lamp-free projectors allowed us to replace a variety of existing projectors with different throw ranges without having to move existing ceiling mounts — making the transition easier for all parties involved."

"Overall, Casio's XJ-M250 projectors operate cooler, use significantly less power than traditional bulb projectors and are bright enough to be used in a fully lit room with the window shades open," said Don Fournier, division manager of information technology for Phoenix Union, in a prepared statement. "With a five-year warranty on the light source, the projectors are essentially maintenance-free."
