Edmodo Intros App for Windows 8.1
Edmodo, a free social learning network
for K-12, has developed an app for Windows 8.1 users. The company made the
announcement at the ISTE 2014
conference in Atlanta.
Edmodo enables schools and districts to create closed, private, online
communities for teachers and students for the purpose of facilitating
communication and collaboration. Users can access Edmodo's full functionality
through a Web browser, but until now Edmodo apps have been available for iPad
and Android tablets only. The platform has expanded to Windows 8.1 devices,
furthering the company's commitment "to bringing a streamlined Edmodo experience
to users no matter their device preference,” said Nic Borg, co-founder and chief
product officer of Edmodo, in a prepared statement.
Unlike the iPad and Android apps, which offer a subset of Edmodo features,
the app for Windows 8.1 provides "access to the full suite of Edmodo features
available on the Web version," according to the company, but it emphasizes the
features most commonly used in classrooms.
Key features of the Edmodo app for Windows 8.1 include:
- Live tile notifications;
- Touch-enabled split screen;
- Ability to create and join groups;
- Collaboration with peers in the group stream and Edmodo subject
communities;
- Assignment creation and submission;
- User library access;
- Content retrieval from the Edmodo Store;
- New account creation; and
- Content sharing between teachers or from teachers to students.
