Center for Responsive Schools Opens Registration for Summer PD Workshops

The Center for Responsive Schools (CSR) has opened registration for its 2016 summer workshops.

The four-day-long courses will include classes designed for elementary school educators at 26 locations in the United States as well as a new course for middle school teachers at 11 locations around the country. Both courses are appropriate for teachers of all content areas.

Practices and strategies covered by the new middle school course include interactive learning structures, interactive modeling, responsive advisory meeting and teacher language among others.

"The new Responsive Classroom Course for Middle School Educators is another step in fulfilling the board of directors' vision for creating optimal places for students to learn. The course features practical strategies that middle school teachers can use within the structures and requirements of their classrooms and schools" said Marijke Kehrhahn, chair of the board of directors for CRS, in a prepared statement. "Educators will learn how to create a middle school experience that's responsive to the developmental, academic, social and emotional strengths and needs of every young adolescent."

The course for elementary educators is designed to help teachers learn to "engage students academically, build positive community, manage the classroom effectively and create a developmentally appropriate learning environment," according to a news release. "Educators who have already taken the Responsive Classroom Course for Elementary Educators can register for the Responsive Classroom Advanced Course for Elementary Educators. In this course, educators will deepen the Responsive Classroom skills they have already learned. The course will be offered as two 2-day modules: Engaging Academics and Effective Management."

Each course costs $729. Graduate and continuing education credits are available. Visit responsiveclassroom.org for more information.
