Sony Intros 10-Inch Digital Paper Model

Sony today announced a 10-inch version of its Digital Paper device. The DPT-CP1 is "notebook-sized," compared to the original 13-inch "letter-sized" DPT-RP1.

Like the 13-inch model, the notebook-sized device is about a quarter-inch thick, offers a glare-free paper-like display and comes with two different stylus tips (for a pen-like or pencil-like writing experience). It has 16 GB of internal memory and can last up to three weeks on a single charge (with WiFi/Bluetooth turned off), according to the company.

In addition, both the 10-inch and the 13-inch models now sport a number of new features:

  • A new Digital Paper mobile app, available in June for Android and iOS, will allow users to transfer documents, forms and notes to and from the Digital Paper more easily;
  • With the new screen capture/display output mode, users can connect via PC or Mac to a projector and then display Digital Paper content (including real-time handwriting and mark-up) to a large screen;
  • Support for interactive PDFs and smart forms;
  • A page jump function, allowing users to enter a page number and go directly to that page;
  • Pan and zoom, for moving the display area on an enlarged page view;
  • Automatic page rotation; and
  • Page thumbnails mode, for viewing up to 16 pages at once.

    California AI Watermarking Bill Supported by OpenAI

    OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, is backing a California bill that would require tech companies to label AI-generated content in the form of a digital "watermark." The proposed legislation, known as the "California Digital Content Provenance Standards" (AB 3211), aims to ensure transparency in digital media by identifying content created through artificial intelligence. This requirement would apply to a broad range of AI-generated material, from harmless memes to deepfakes that could be used to spread misinformation about political candidates.
