Amazon CS Initiative Reaches 2,000 High Schools

The Amazon Future Engineering Program is bringing computer science educational opportunities to high schools across the United States.  Amazon has announced that more than 2,000 high schools are now offering Intro and AP computer science courses through the initiative.

The program is primarily for Title I schools that have never offered computer science classes. Edhesive and CodePath.org are providing the educational content to teachers. In addition, Amazon is funding preparatory, lessons and professional development for teachers.

Students who plan to pursue undergraduate computer science degrees can apply for a four-year scholarship program that provides $10,000 per year and a guaranteed summer internship at Amazon. Prospective incoming college freshmen can apply for the scholarship program starting Nov. 4.  

Amazon Future Engineer was launched in Nov. 2018 with the goal of "inspiring millions of kids" to explore computer science concepts and careers. All students who participate in the program will get free access to AWS Educate.
