District Deploys Wireless Mic System in Largest Rooms

A Michigan school has standardized its audio set-ups for gymnasiums, music rooms, cafeterias, media centers and multipurpose rooms. Forest Hills Public Schools in Grand Rapids chose the implementation services of Sport View Technologies for the deployment in its 15 schools. The equipment included Audio-Technica's fourth-generation 3000 Series microphone wireless systems and AtlasIED's BlueBridge DSP units, power amplifiers and SM12CXT speakers.

At least three spaces in each school were outfitted with the audio gear. According to SVT Solutions Architect Eric Pounds, Forest Hills specified six to 12 wireless microphones per system, since the "bulk of the systems were being used for large group instruction. He said the district also wanted a mobile cart in each building with wireless mics and portable public address systems "so they could wheel around a system to address the staff and students for different uses throughout the facility."

Pounds noted that Audio-Technica's support was an important part of the bid. "A big part of our success in securing the bid and winning over the customer was having support from the manufacturer," he said. "We were able to contact A-T, use their expertise in selecting the right microphone system and get the ball rolling that way. They helped us with of the design elements as far as configuring the antennas and selecting frequencies."
