Purpose Prep SEL Curriculum Expanded

Social and emotional learning provider Purpose Prep is adding three new courses to its SEL collection, which will, in turn, be added to the curriculum made available by Edgenuity. Both companies produce K-12 online learning courses and are owned by Weld North Education.

The new additions are intended for grades 6-12 and include:

  • Climate and culture transformation;

  • Restorative practices and principles; and

  • Trauma-informed living.

If these courses follow the format in six original courses included in the Edgenuity learning management system, each will have about 15 hours of active learning time, not counting teacher-led discussions or offline work. Individual lessons, which are customizable, can be done in about 30 minutes.

According to the companies, the courses align to standards such as the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and frameworks, including as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

"We're excited about these new courses as they reflect our continued promise to improve and expand our offerings in response to customer feedback, especially during this time of increased stressors and need," said Daniel Budzinski, founder and CEO of Purpose Prep, in a press release.

Earlier this year Louisiana's Department of Education announced that it would be making SEL courses available to all students in grades 6-12. Purpose Prep's SEL offerings were included in a list of "student well-being" vendors for schools to choose from.
