Free Online Academy to Teach Safety Protocols to New Science Teachers

A company that sells scientific equipment has launched a set of training sessions specifically for new science teachers. The "New Teacher Academy," produced by Flinn Scientific, will introduce educators with three years or fewer of teaching experience to basics of science safety.

Over the course of three 90-minute webinars, attendees will learn about handling protocols, chemical and specimen storage, student safety guidance, first aid, personal protective equipment usage, regulatory compliance and related topics.

Flinn experts will also be on hand to answer individual questions.

Those who participate will receive a kit with safety-related materials, including a $25 coupon for Flinn gear, and a "professional development new science teacher certification."

"Creating a safe and engaging learning environment for students is a top priority for all science educators," said Michael Lavelle, CEO of Flinn Scientific, in a press release. "With the New Teacher Academy, educators new to the profession will receive the guidance, resources, and supports needed to understand exactly what a safe science environment entails and how it can be applied in their own classrooms and labs this school year."

The three-part series kicks off Sept. 15, 2021 and runs each Wednesday until Sept. 29, 2021.
