Instructure to Acquire Kimono

The maker of learning management system Canvas, Instructure, has entered into a deal to acquire Kimono, which produces software for cloud-based data integration and interoperability.

Once the acquisition is complete, Instructure stated, Kimono will be renamed "Elevate Data Sync."

Kimono links applications to student information systems using integration platform as a service (iPaaS), keeping data, grades and rosters synchronized. Like Instructure, the company serves both K-12 and higher education. It claimed 27,000 schools and universities and colleges as customers.

"The acquisition underscores Instructure's vision of building education's most integrated platform and demonstrates our deep commitment to openness," said Steve Daly, CEO of Instructure, in a press release. "We want to give schools the freedom of choice to connect with their preferred applications. By incorporating Kimono's adaptable, cloud-based integration and interoperability solution as Elevate Data Sync, we strengthen our ability to more seamlessly connect users with the applications they love."

Both organizations are located in the greater Salt Lake City region. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
