WeVideo Acquires Video-Enrichment Software Company PlayPosit

Multimedia creation platform WeVideo has acquired PlayPosit, whose software allows users to layer learning experiences into video content, according to a news release.

WeVideo, founded in 2011 to enable K–12 educators and students to create their own video content, said the acquisition will allow its users to enrich their videos with engaging instruction, real-time measurement, and actionable analytics.

“Our goal is to help creators boost user engagement and increase ROI on training and information retention,” said WeVideo CEO Krishna Menon. “With the addition of PlayPosit’s assessment capabilities, WeVideo will now offer a robust communication feedback loop that enhances the entire learning experience.”

WeVideo has served over 38 million users, including at K–12, higher education, and corporate institutions. PlayPosit’s customer base includes about 5 million users in corporate and higher ed, according to the news release. PlayPosit’s software “integrates with existing learning management systems and allows anyone to add interactive layers such as hot spots, overlays with embedded media, multi-versioned questions, annotation, badging, and peer review,” the company said.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. WeVideo is backed by Thompson Street Capital Partners.
