Propello to Provide Free and Low-Cost Digital Learning Tools to K–12 Schools

New ed tech company Propello has launched with the goal of helping budget-strapped school districts provide access to standards-based, high-quality curricula and teacher support for no or little cost. The company has also debuted two of its upcoming K–12 curriculum offerings in middle school science, with plans to expand well beyond that.

Propello, a subsidiary of Swedish digital curriculum provider NE, will start with Propello Science 6–8, a Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) curriculum, using the 5E model of instruction (engage, explore, explain, extend, and evaluate) with guided inquiry methods. This year-long curriculum, which includes a microlearning course for educators on incorporating Writing Across the Curriculum into their classes, is free. Other courses for educators can be found at Propello’s Learning and Inspiration Center page.

The company will also offer Propello IB MYP Science, “a curriculum designed for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme’s science requirements with real-world, global learning focused on critical thinking and collaboration.”

The Propello system allows educators to create courses using a standards-aligned curriculum, including assignments and assessments. They can change them as necessary for their students' personal needs and subject matter.

Propello is also offering districts access to a technology platform of additional services and tools for 75% less than the typical cost of others, the company said. Propello said this is only the start of a full K–12 curriculum. Coming soon will be the launch of Propello ELA (English Language Arts) 6–8 and Propello Science K–5.
