D2L Offers Free AI Ethics and Governance Course

Global learning technology company D2L is offering a free course called "Introduction to AI Ethics and Governance." D2L built the course and partnered with AI law specialists INQ Consulting to provide the content. In light of the vast explosion of AI use in education and industry, the course focuses on helping companies and organizations understand AI technology, the ethics surrounding it, how to govern it safely and responsibly, and reduce its risks.

The course is free, self-paced and self-directed, and its three modules take about 40 minutes to complete, the company said. Course registration is open now and closes Dec. 31, 2024.

Module content is as follows:

  • Level-Setting on AI and AI Ethics: an introduction to AI and ethical considerations;
  • Emerging AI Regulation: how it has been approached, the major pieces of legislation, and major standards; and
  • Operationalizing AI Governance — Best Practices: guidelines for implementing a strategy for safe and effective governance.

"AI's potential is undeniable, and the more organizations understand it, the better they will be able to align their business goals to it," said Dr. Rajesh Talpade, D2L's senior vice president of product. "We are excited to empower organizations to welcome AI ethically into their processes by helping build their confidence in the technology."
