24 Schools To Compete in County-Wide Educational Gaming Tournament

Students from 24 middle schools will compete this week in what is being touted as the first county-wide educational video game competition.
160 middle school students from schools in Broward County Public Schools in Florida will compete Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in a contest of math skills using Tabula Digita's DimensionM software. Tabula's DimensionM integrates algebra and pre-algebra lessons into an immersive 3D environment in which players carry out missions in multi-player tournament-style games. Players face mathematical obstacles, which, when solved, allow them to advance and score points. The software is in use as an educational tool at a number of other Florida districts, according to Tabula, including Orange County Public Schools, the School District of Palm Beach County, Seminole County Public Schools, and Volusia County Schools.
"These schools represent the very essence of why we developed DimensionM in the first place – the students are engaged, excited, and improving their mastery of math," said Ntiedo Etuk, CEO of Tabula Digita, in a statement announcing the event.
