San Diego USD Deploys VersaTrans for Student Transportation Management

San Diego Unified School District has recently deployed Tyler Technologies' VersaTrans software in an effort to manage the daily transportation of more than 21,000 K-12 students.

According to the announcement, San Diego USD has contracted with Tyler to provide a variety of transportation software products including VersaTrans RP, OnScreen, TripTracker, and e-Link. In addition to software licenses, Tyler will provide the district with a range of professional services, general maintenance, and support for the system.

"Transportation staff did on-site visits with other school districts, worked closely with technology committees from the Council of the Great City Schools and state and national transportation associations with the goal of finding off-the-shelf solutions which would not only improve the current process for students, but also meet the districts long-term District Wide Application (DWA) needs," explained Alexandra Robinson, SDUSD's director of transportation services department, in a prepared statement. "After an extensive bid process involving Transportation, IT and Special Ed, Tyler was selected as the best solution for the district."

According to Tyler, the platform has been certified with the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) and includes automated routing, mapping and planning tools, field-trip management, and GPS fleet tracking. The suite of products also includes a Web-based component that allows the district to share bus location information with parents.
