St. Bernard Updates Web Security Appliance, Offers Sneak Peek at Mobile Security

St. Bernard Software has released a new version of its Web security appliance and provided a preview of a new mobile security service.
iPrism 6.4 runs on multiple operating systems, sports a new Web interface, and includes video tutorials built into the product. The new release supports a mixed network, including systems running Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The new user interface is designed for easier setup out of the box and ongoing administration. Video tutorials integrated into the product are intended to help users educate themselves on features and functionality for creating, managing, and enforcing Web usage policies.
"St. Bernard's iPrism Secure Web Gateway 6.4 is a very nice enhancement to the company's web security capabilities", said Michael Osterman, president of Osterman Research. "The company's focus on low cost of ownership is carried through in this release, and the video tutorials are a nice feature for those learning the gateway or who might need a refresher on specific capabilities from time to time."
The new release also includes functionality that will surface shortly to provide Web security for remote and mobile computing without requiring any changes to the enterprise network or the use of a VPN or DMZ server. The upcoming remote filtering solution uses three components: the iPrism 6.4 appliance, St. Bernard's Data Center service, and iPrism Remote Filtering Client. The client component, which goes into beta shortly, acts as a "shim" on the client device to log activity to the data center. Initially, said Steve Yin, executive vice president of sales, marketing, and services, Remote Filtering will work on Mac OS X- and Windows-based notebooks. Other types of mobile devices are expected to follow.
