Industry Leaders Attend School-to-Work Summit
Education and industry leaders who attended the North American School-to-Work Summit argued for school reform that would better prepare students for the high-skill jobs in demand today. Participants identified several ingredients for schools of the future, including partnerships among schools, businesses and community colleges; widespread use of information technology; and the integration of work skills into classroom curricula. The summit was sponsored by TRO Learning, a leading developer and marketer of microcomputer-based self-paced instructional and testing systems. Their PLATO courseware library comprises over 2,000 hours of instruction in reading, writing, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, life and job skills, and technology.
