HP Printers Deliver Photo-Quality Color

Hewlett Packard's DeskJet 690 series printers produce photo-quality color images never before possible from the desktop. In an educational setting, the printers work in conjunction with low-cost color scanners, Photo CD drives and other input devices.

The printers are the first to incorporate HP's Photo Resolution Enhancement technology (Photo-REt), which combines a newly designed ink cartridge (available in an optional kit) with hardware, firmware and software advances. Customers simply remove the black cartridge to snap in the Photo Cartridge alongside the standard three-color cartridge. The Photo Cartridge contains special photo inks with lower dye-loads, resulting in a lighter shade of ink. It also produces smaller ink drops, reducing the "graininess" found in other inkjet printers.

The DeskJet 690 prints up to 5 pages per minute (ppm) in black and 1.7 ppm in color. Its HP Printer Toolbox gives immediate onscreen information about printing functions as well as instructions for solving common printing problems and performing tasks such as printing envelopes.
