Lumio by SMART Technologies Intros AI Assist, Class Sessions Tools
Cloud-based learning platform Lumio by SMART Technologies has introduced two new features designed to streamline lesson delivery and enhance teacher organization.
Class Sessions, available for free to all Lumio users, is a lesson planning tool that enables teachers to organize, deliver, and review Lumio lessons for multiple classes simultaneously, the company explained in a news announcement. Lesson content is maintained separately from student responses, helping provide more flexibility and control.
Features of Class Sessions include:
- Lesson management allows teachers to reteach or reassign lessons across multiple class groups, eliminating the need to duplicate lessons manually;
- The ability to review student work while driving live instruction across different lessons, at the same time; and
- Expanded freemium storage, now doubled from 50MB to 100MB.
"What we were hearing from teachers was that they're constantly juggling multiple classes and needed a simpler way to manage lessons across them," commented Dan McMahon, VP of software at SMART Technologies, in a statement. "Our product teams listened and developed Class Sessions in direct response to what teachers told us they need: more flexibility, more control, and tools that expand their ability to facilitate impactful learning."

The other new Lumio feature, AI Assist, is a generative AI tool that can help create learning activities, discussion prompts, and assessments. It supports four quiz-based activities, the company said:
- Response: Individual, device-based quizzes for quick formative assessment;
- Monster Quiz & Team Quiz: Collaborative, competitive games where students work in teams on their devices;
- Game Show: A whole-class activity that turns review into an interactive quiz show; and
- Speedup: A race where students compete to answer questions and cross the finish line first.
