Georgia Schools Order Dell PCs and Servers

The Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools in Georgia have chosen Dell Computer Corp. as the key hardware provider for a $28 million effort to provide a technology infrastructure and computer-based curriculum system to 36,000 students.

Upon completion of the five-year technology plan, all 49 school sites will contain media centers with access to software resources and the Internet. The district purchased a total of 2,250 student workstations, combining Dellís Optiplex 5100G and 5133GS models.

In addition, the district ordered Dellís PowerEdge 2100 and 4100 network servers. The PowerEdge 2100 is a Pentium Pro server with an ultra-wide SCSI controller for superior data access and room for up to 27GB of internal hard disk storage.

Travis Allen, assistant superintendent of technology, said that, out of four vendors, "Dell simply submitted the best proposal to our competitive bid." He added that "the products and service have fully lived up to our expectations." Dell Computer Corp., Round Rock, TX, (800) 388-8542, www.dell.com.
