Full-Text Database Goes Online in N.Y. Library
This fall, patrons in the Westchester Library System (WLS) in upstate New York can search an online database containing one million articles on topics such as business, science, humanities, culture and education. WLS' 38 members serve over 500,000 people in Westchester County.
Access to the database is provided via EBSCOhost, a Z39.50-compliant client/server periodical access system designed for libraries, library consortia, school districts and colleges. The system runs on EBSCO's Windows, Macintosh and UNIX clients, as well as through the World Wide Web.
WLS patrons can access EBSCO's MasterFILE FullTEXT 1500, Health Source Plus, Newspaper Source and Primary Search. They also can access several third-party databases: Facts on File World News Digest, Collier's Encyclopedia, Comprehensive MEDLINE and ERIC.
"WLS is thrilled to extend the enormous range and depth of EBSCO's databases free of charge to Westchester library cardholders in their homes, businesses and anywhere else they have Web access," said Dr. Maurice J. Freedman, director of WLS. EBSCO Publishing, Ipswich, MA, (800) 653-2726, www.epnet.com.
