Foreign Language Courses Available Online

Apex Learning, Inc. has partnered with Power-Glide International, creator of foreign language courses, to expand Apex's current offering of 10 advanced placement courses to include six new core-level curriculum for grades 9-12. States and school districts working with Apex will now have access to French, German and Spanish language courses online to help meet the curriculum needs of all students, particularly those in previously under-served areas. Power-Glide, which is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, will provide experienced foreign language and distance-learning instructors to teach the six new courses: French I and II, German I and II, and Spanish I and II.

Unlike other traditional foreign language courses, this online instruction d'es not rely on rote memorization of grammar rules and vocabulary. Instead, students focus on listening, reading, writing and spontaneous, natural speech. The courses use various sensory methods including oral, visual and kinesthetic to encourage proficiency in communication. Given the importance of an audio-intensive experience when learning a foreign language, the courses enable students to record and listen to audio files of themselves, and to submit those files to instructors for critique.
