E-Book Seeks to Help Troubled Kids

Young people who are experiencing difficult times may find some solace in reading about the struggles endured by their peers as recounted in a new e-book from 1st Books Library, Strength & Spirit - The Paperback Internet. Produced by Jane E. Johnston, a licensed independent clinical social worker, the book is a compilation of stories about youngsters who have confronted adversity and persevered.

Mark, a fifth-grader, tells about his triumph over a reading disability, and explains how hard work paid off in his ability to read and write. Others write about school problems, loss and disappointment, death, life changes, relationships, physical challenges, drugs, alcohol and smoking, among other topics.

The e-book is full of pictures, has an attractive layout, and contains a word- search tool and chapters with sections for grade, middle and high schools. Links take the reader to desired chapters or sections. The Web site associated with the book also includes message forums and chat rooms where readers can discuss their own life experiences. 1st Books Library, Bloomington, IN, (800) 839-8640, www.1stbooks.com or www.strengthandspirit.com.
