Library Opens Door to 21st Century
The Jones Library of the Future recently opened on the campus of Hickory High School in Hermitage, Pa., for the benefit of the school's 700 students and the surrounding community. Named after cable entrepreneur and founder/CEO of Jones Knowledge, Glenn R. Jones, who grew up in Hermitage, the library is said to be the most technologically advanced in the country. Boasting unique architectural and technological features, it will serve as a model for future libraries. Its features include a cyber bridge that runs the length of the library, representing a bridge to the cyber world of education, information and research; cyber modules, study and work units that have been custom designed to give students privacy, while still allowing them to participate in collaborative class projects; and a distance learning room.
