Partnerships Expand Virtual School's Course Catalog

Apex Learning, a provider of virtual school solutions for K-12 institutions, is expanding its online course offerings through partnerships with Power-Glide and the University of Washington. Apex will add three online foreign language courses and an Advanced Placement Spanish Exam Review product to its 2002-2003 school year course catalog through Power-Glide. The collaboration with the University of Washington will result in 10 new online courses for high schools.

The new AP Spanish and Latin I and II courses use interactive instructional tools, including audio and visual activities, to accommodate a variety of student learning styles. Students can record and listen to audio files of themselves speaking, and submit those files online for instructors to evaluate. Power-Glide and Apex provide experienced online language teachers for the courses. The extended foreign language course offerings are expected to help schools struggling to recruit qualified foreign language instructors.

With four years of experience offering online Advanced Placement and foreign language courses to high school students, the partnership with the University of Washington expands Apex's online core curricula. The new courses offered under this partnership will include full-year chemistry, intermediate algebra, pre-calculus, introduction to American literature, U.S. history, earth sciences, geography, Internet, sociology, and psychology. All 16 semesters of new content will be available to Apex's virtual school customers beginning with the 2002-2003 school year. Apex Learning, Bellevue, WA, (800) 453-1454, www.apexlearning.com.
