editors’ Pick: The Map Detectives

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

Students will enjoy Sherston Software’s new program The Map Detectives so much, they won’t even realize they’re learning valuable skills. The easy-to-use interface features two fun mysteries designed to help children in grades 3-8 hone their geography and mapping skills. Students become private detectives trying to solve “baffling burglaries.” Along the way, they learn the benefits of using a compass, pick up information about famous geographical landmarks, learn how to read and differentiate between maps and plans, as well as learn about the history and climate of several European locales.

By following the maps and collecting clues, the detectives bring sinister characters, such as Shifty Shirley and Ruthless Richard, to justice. The application comes with hard copies of the maps, so children can grow accustomed to reading physical maps in addition to reading them on the computer screen. It’s unlikely that any of these detectives will get lost in the real world after playing this game.
