TEA To Deploy Texas Records Exchange System

02.14.2007—The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has awarded a three-year contract to the National Transcript Center (NTC), a division of ESP Solutions Group, to develop and deploy "TREx," also known as the Texas Records Exchange System. Edvance Research Inc. (ERI) has been subcontracted to direct statewide training and customer support for the system.
TREx will be used in Texas to improve student record exchange. Public school districts will be ale to transfer student records in an electronic format to other schools in Texas and will also be able to send high school transcripts to public colleges and universities in Texas electronically through the SPEEDE server at the University of Texas at Austin at no cost to the district, according to NTC. The company said school districts "will also have the ability to send Individual Education Programs and Personal Graduation Plans at no cost to the district. These documents will be sent as attachments to the student record when appropriate."
Optional capabilities of the system include:
- The ability to send records electronically to out of state schools and colleges via the NTC National Server;
- The ability to send Avowed-certified PDFs to employers, scholarship providers, certifying bodies, and other non-academic recipients;
- Private schools and colleges will also be able to join TREx for a fee.
NTC said TREx will improve the efficiency, cost, and security of student record exchange in Texas. The system is slated for rollout in fall 2007. TEA serves some 4.5 million public school students across 8,000 campuses, making it the second-largest state education agency in the country.
