McGraw-Hill Rolls Out K-6 ELL Program

Macmillan/McGraw-Hill, a unit of the McGraw-Hill School Solutions Group, has released a new program for English language learners in grades K through 6: Treasure Chest, a research-based language and literacy curriculum that combines interactive activities with traditional teaching tools.
Treasure Chest is designed to complement Macmillan/McGraw-Hill's K-6 language arts program, Treasures, though it is also meant to fit in with any core reading program. It follows the Treasures progression of themes, topics, and skills focus but targets beginning, intermediate, and advanced English Language Learners with vocabulary suitable for their level of "language acquisition."
Some of the features of the program include:
- Differentiated instruction for students of varying reading levels;
- Use of "Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol" for building background;
- Various resources for the program, from interactive "Adventures of Buggles and Beezy" activities to vocabulary and comprehension cards; and
- Formal and informal assessments.
