Speak Up 2007: Call for Participation Extends to Administrators

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

Project Tomorrow's annual Speak Up survey opened Oct. 15 with an expanded call for participation, inviting school and district administrators to share their views on technology and science education and how they can be leveraged to "provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the digital economy." The 2007 survey is also open, as usual, to K-12 students, parents, and teachers.

The Speak Up survey is conducted annually to assess views on current issues in education, and results are shared with state and federal policy leaders. According to Project Tomorrow, since 2003, some 857,000 K-12 students, teachers, and parents from more than 10,000 schools have participated in the survey, and last year's participation grew by 35 percent. The group said it expects about 325,000 individuals to participate in Speak Up 2007.

The latest survey adds new topic areas, including interest in STEM careers; the use of Web. 2.0 and social networking tools in schools; opinions on 21st century learning; emerging technologies (gaming, handheld devices, etc.); and "designing the ultimate school for the 21st century learner."

Speak Up 2007--sponsored by CDW-G, Smart Technologies, Pasco scientific, Futurekids, and KI Education--is open to students, teachers, parents, and administrators from all public, private, parochial, and charter schools in the United States and Canada. Individual information is kept confidential.

The 2007 survey will run through Dec. 15.
