Teachscape Expands Professional Development for Instructional Leaders

Professional development provider Teachscape has launched a new "Adolescent Literacy" program and also launched its new Instructional Decision Making and Planning Institute, a service focusing on developing approaches for instructional leaders to enhance student learning. Both announcements were made last week at the FETC 2008 conference in Florida.
The new "Adolescent Literacy Program of Study" was developed by Teachscape in collaboration with the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. Targeting educational professionals who work with adolescents, the program focuses on recognizing and overcoming the difficulties involved in building literacy skills in young adults. The blended program includes 12 months of study with on site and online support through Teachscape's Online Program Manager. The online support includes, according to Teachscape: "video case studies; publications and research articles; and facilitator materials including pacing calendars, sample schedules, discussion prompts, session plans, and more."
The Adolescent Literacy Program of Study is available now.
Teachscape also launched its new Instructional Decision Making and Planning Institute. IDMPI targets instructional leaders--principals, coaches, professional developers, and other facilitators--focused on improving student learning. The program is broken into six parts: Overview, Understanding Student Needs, Summarizing Multiple Assessments, Creating a Class Profile, Developing Action Plans, and Reflecting: Keeping It Going. These focus on aspects of education including assessments, monitoring student progress, developing instructional strategies based on student needs, and establishing learning goals, among other topics.
In related news, Teachscape announced that Fairfax County Public Schools has adopted the Instructional Decision Making and Planning model district-wide.
