2 Chicago Schools Implement Emergency Text Message Notification System

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

North Park Elementary and Sacred Heart School, both independent schools in Chicago enrolling elementary students through grade 8, have implemented Simplified Alerts, an emergency notification system that notifies parents of school closures and emergency situations via automatic text messaging.

Using an I.D. and password, a representative of the school logs into the Web site and enters the text of the alert. The opt-in system allows parents to submit their cell phone numbers or e-mail addresses, and participants instantly receive the text alerts from the short messaging system (SMS).

North Park chose the Simplified Alerts system because it "requires no software installation and it took less than an hour to train our staff to use the program online," said Shari Hurovitz, administrative assistant at North Park.
