Blackboard Learn Adds Common Core State Standards Support

Blackboard has added support for Common Core State Standards to its flagship learning management system, Blackboard Learn 9.1.

Blackboard already supported all 50 individual state standards in Blackboard Learn, which the new version continues to do. But now, with the update, it also includes support for widely adopted Common Core State Standards, including tools to help teachers align their instruction to the emerging standards.

Common Core State Standards are designed to provide a national, standardized set of academic standards as an alternative to those preiously developed by individual states. As of this writing, 40 states, along with the District of Columbia and the United States Virgin Islands, have adopted the standards, according to information posted on the CCSS site.

With Blackboard 9.1, the company reported, K-12 teachers and administrators can "search the standards database from the course environment to ensure that courses and content are aligned to the new standards." Other new capabilities include automated standards mapping and consistency reporting.

Blackboard said support for the standards is available now for Blackboard Lean 9.1 and the Blackboard Learn Angel Edition (for users of Angel LMS, which Blackboard acquired in May 2009).
