School Video Contest To Award Classroom Makeovers

eInstruction s acceptiong entries for its Classroom Makeover Video Contest until noon Eastern time Oct. 25.

Classes in the United States, Canada (excluding Quebec), South Africa, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico can submit short, creative music videos showing how they would use technology to enhance their learning experiences in the classroom. 

Entries for the contest can be submitted at 2011classroommakeover.com

Videos will be judged based on effective use of technology, portrayal of teachers and students working together, and creativity and spirit.

Five finalists in each grade category (kindergarten through fifth grade; sixth grade through eighth grade; and ninth grade through 12 grade) will be selected Nov. 9, and users will be able to vote for best submissions through Dec. 5. A grand-prize winner will be named for each grade category on or around Dec. 12.

The winner in each category will receive an interactive classroom makeover, including the following educational technology:

  • Mobi View System: a mobile version of the interactive whiteboard that has touchscreen controls;
  • Mobi Student-Centered Learning Pack, which allows up to nine students or groups to display work at the front of the room from their seats;
  • CPS Pulse, a student response system that takes attendance, grades quizzes and tests, and records results;
  • ExamView Assessment Suite, which creates, administers, and manages assessments.
  • ExamView Learning Series, which includes more than 12,000 questions aligned to state standards and core curriculum topics in language arts, math, reading, science, and social studies.

  • Dell: Interactive projector;
  • Evan-Moor: 10 interactive applications;
  • FableVision: Words and Their Stories site, Animation-ish, Stationery Studio Deluxe, and Big Screen Books licenses;
  • Hewlett-Packard: Desktop and Touchsmart PCs
  • Ignite! Learning: Middle school ION site license and Ignite Torches;
  • Incredible Kid: Write On, Classroom Edition;
  • Math Forum @ Drexel: Problems of the Week annual license;
  • Monarch Teaching Technologies: VizZle teacher license;
  • Nectar Foundation: Math and Language Treks site license;
  • netTrekker Search: One-year netTrekker annual license;
  • School Specialty: 120 student planners;
  • StarrMatica: District membership; and
  • Study Island: Math and reading licenses.

The eInstruction Classroom Makeover is valued at about $173,000, and prizes will vary based on grade level of winning classrooms.
