Idaho District Gets New Gigabit Fiber Network

A school district in Boise, ID has just deployed a gigabit Ethernet network to deliver 100-megabit service to its 49 schools and administration buildings. Joint School District No. 2 has contracted with Zayo Group for the nearly $80,000 per month dedicated fiber service. The improved network is being used to deliver public access services, digital voice, and a secure network to connect district sites. The district has about 35,000 students and 2,500 employees.

"This network increases our district's Internet access, internal capacity, and reliability, giving our district access to technology applications that enhance learning," said Jerry Reininger, director of information systems. "Zayo worked with our district to understand our requirements up front, and designed a solution to meet the district's need for building an E-rate compliant high-bandwidth network."
