EON Virtual Reality Tools Enhanced for Mobile Use

EON Reality, which creates immersive environments for education and training and maintains a library of virtual reality applications, has updated its mobile capabilities to support an expanded set of software and devices.

The latest version of EON Mobile includes features in the company's development platform, EON Professional, that simplify the process of porting existing virtual reality applications to new devices; updated user interface components designed to enhance the user's mobile virtual reality experience; and a scripting engine that has been sped up for better performance when users run EON scripts unmodified on mobile devices.

The new software adds support for Epson's Moverio smart glasses — it already supported Google Glass — as well as Apple's iPhone 6 and Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 phones.

The company manages an interactive digital center consortium, which pulls together technology, development and industry partners, including users, to develop standards for virtual reality.

"Wearable augmented reality glasses, like ... Moverio and Google Glass, are the next big thing in our industry," said Chairman Dan Lejerskar. "We're extremely excited to leverage the industry leading experience of our [interactive digital centers] consortium members, like Epson, to push the boundaries of what is possible in augmented reality-based knowledge transfer. EON imagines a future where contextual knowledge materializes in front of eyes when you need it."

Software from EON Reality has been used for virtual reality experimentation at Boulder Valley School District and Poudre School District in Colorado, among others.
