Online Platform Offers Interactive STEM ‘Experiences’

A new, online platform offers three engaging “experiences,” or activities, that highlight the work of American scientists and technologists. The National Science and Technology Medals Foundation (NSTMF), an organization that works to fight discrimination in STEM, launched The Lab today to inspire the next generation of scientists.

The Lab was created in partnership with Local Projects, an experience design studio. The platform explores principles of gravity, sound and image processing through a unique, interactive interface. For each topic, learners are first presented with a question that guides the activity, then they are instructed to complete game-like tasks.

"Imagine learning about gravity or sound waves by creating your own universe or sound installation, and understanding first-hand the world-changing accomplishments of the National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology and Innovation Laureates," said Jake Barton, founder of Local Projects, in a prepared statement. "The Lab invites visitors to create their own experiences around the world, benefiting from the laureates' incredible work."
