Grants to Help Study Handheld Integration in Classroom

Palm, Inc. has recently awarded $2.3 million in grants to more than 100 elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities in an effort to determine the best way to integrate handhelds into the classroom. SRI International's Center for Technology in Learning administers the research program, as well as develops and conducts evaluations to study the learning uses, experiences and effectiveness of Palm handhelds for teaching and learning.

Several of the award recipients will act as research hubs, including school districts, universities and research institutes with the infrastructure and planning in place to help teachers use handhelds effectively. The research hubs receive multiple classroom sets of Palm handhelds, will train and provide ongoing support to teachers, and will work closely with the SRI International evaluation team.
