NASA Site Turns Students Into Astronomers

NASA’s Student Observation Network (SON) is a collection of online, inquiry-based modules that allow students to discover answers to some of the questions that excite NASA scientists. Each SON module features a question to be answered or problem to be solved. The current theme under development, “ Living and Working in Space,” is divided into three modules: Energy, Habitat, and Transportation—each associated with specific shuttle missions. Additionally, NASA is pleased to introduce a key component of the energy module—“Star Count,” which isan investigation developed in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency that allows students to research why people might not see the same number of stars in the sky. Students use a common method for counting stars and submit their data online for students in other parts of the world to use in their investigations...
