StyleTap Brings Palm Software to Windows Mobile

10.31.2006—A new piece of software promises to bring Palm OS applications to other mobile platforms. StyleTap 1.0, released today by StyleTap Inc., is the first in a family of tools designed to allow software written for Palm devices to run unmodified on other operating systems, including Windows Mobile, Symbian OS and Windows Mobile for Smartphones.
The company says that, at present, StyleTap 1.0 allows “most” software written for any version of Palm OS (including applications that use ARMlets) to run on “virtually any” Windows Mobile Pocket PC device, including devices with high-resolution screens in portarit and landscape modes and phones with square screens. It also supports wireless, serial and USB networking and offers IR and BlueTooth communications capabilities.
End users can download StyleTap 1.0 starting today. Developers also ow have access to StyleTap’s APIs to add custom functionaility to their applications. The company is also offering direct access to native libraries for specialized applications. A corporate version will be announced soon, accordig to StyleTap, that adds support for barcode and RFID scanners, as well as other specialized hardware.
