VALIANT USA is introducing its Roamer-Too line—five robots to help teachmath, science, reading, language arts, and social studies—each geared to differentgrade levels. The original Roamer was inspired by Seymour Papert, theman behind the popular Lego Mindstorms. The Roamer was designed to providea visual representation of abstract concepts, such as positive andnegative numbers, by allowing students to program the device to moveand turn. The Roamer-Too units (to be released in July) have speech functionsas well, so the automatons can “tell” students how to resolve a programmingerror, or when the robot is low on battery power. Lesson plansare available free from the company website. Price: $100-$125 per robot.
